Kaneda Masata

On May 5, 2024, we changed our company name from Space Entertainment Laboratory Inc. to HAMA Inc. This new name reflects our deep connection to the Hama-dori region of Fukushima Prefecture, where our headquarters is located. Hama-dori was one of the areas most severely affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent nuclear disaster on March 11, 2011. Under the national Fukushima Innovation Coast Framework, extensive efforts have been made to rebuild and establish a new industrial foundation in the region. HAMA Inc. is committed to continuing its work as a technology-driven company rooted in this recovering area. Our goal is to support the revitalization of Hama-dori as a hub of advanced innovation and to contribute to its growth—now and in the future. Just as the region has shown remarkable resilience in the face of adversity, we aim to embody that same spirit as an organization that never gives up, regardless of the challenges it faces. Our name, “HAMA,” is a tribute to this region’s strength and to our unwavering dedication to it. The name HAMA also carries another symbolic meaning. In Japanese tradition, a hamaya (破魔矢) is a ceremonial arrow given as a good-luck charm during the New Year to ward off misfortune. Japan faces a range of national challenges—from natural disasters and climate change to issues of security. The advanced technologies we develop are designed to counter these very threats, much like the hamaya itself. Through our work, we aspire to serve as a force of protection—defending the future of Japan and the world, and contributing to the realization of a safe and prosperous society.
